Ficus Altissima ‘Yellow Gem’

The Ficus Altissima ‘Yellow Gem’ brings a brilliant, sun-kissed glow to your living spaces that instantly brightens the mood of any room. You will want this stunning indoor tree in your home because its large, emerald-green leaves are dramatically splashed with vibrant golden-yellow variegation, creating a living focal point that is much easier to care for than the notoriously fussy Fiddle Leaf Fig. Indoors, this robust grower comfortably reaches five to eight feet tall and about three to four feet wide, making it the perfect architectural centerpiece for an empty corner. If you share your home with curious pets, you must place this beautiful tree thoughtfully; like all Ficus varieties, the ‘Yellow Gem’ produces a milky sap that is toxic to cats and dogs, so keeping it in a pet-free zone is essential to keep everyone safe and happy.

To maintain that breathtaking golden variegation, position your Ficus in a spot that receives plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. If the lighting is too low, the plant will revert to solid green to absorb more energy, while harsh, direct afternoon rays will scorch its beautifully patterned leaves. When it comes to watering, restraint is the secret to a thriving root system. Wait patiently until the top two to three inches of the potting soil feel completely dry to the touch before giving the plant a thorough, deep watering. Always ensure your container drains fully so the roots never sit in standing water. This simple dry-then-drench rhythm prevents root rot and mimics the natural conditions this plant loves, keeping your ‘Yellow Gem’ vibrant and heavily branched all year long.
