Fern ‘Asparagus’

The Asparagus Fern (Asparagus densiflorus) brings a soft, cascading elegance to your indoor spaces that few other plants can match. You will want this vibrant perennial in your home because its feathery, bright green fronds create an instant lush woodland feel, perfect for draping over bookshelves or hanging planters. At maturity, this vigorous grower gracefully trails two to three feet long and spreads about two feet wide, making it a beautiful architectural statement piece. However, if you share your home with furry friends, you must plan your placement carefully; the Asparagus Fern is toxic to both cats and dogs, so keeping it safely out of reach in a sturdy hanging basket is essential.

To keep your fern thriving, place it in a room that receives bright, indirect sunlight, as direct, harsh rays will quickly scorch those delicate needles and turn them yellow. Keep the potting soil evenly moist but never waterlogged by watering thoroughly just as the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Because these plants originate in more humid environments, they love a gentle misting a few times a week. This simple extra step provides the ambient moisture needed to prevent the tips from turning brown and dropping, ensuring your plant stays vibrant, bushy, and full of life all year long.
