New Arrival Philodendron ‘Brasil’

The Philodendron ‘Brasil’ is a stunning, cascading vine that proves your journey of botanical discovery can absolutely flourish right inside your living room. You will want this vibrant houseplant in your home because its heart-shaped leaves look like they have been hand-painted with brilliant strokes of neon yellow and lime green against a dark emerald canvas. It is an incredibly rewarding, fast-growing trailing plant that looks spectacular spilling over the edges of a hanging basket or gracefully draping down a tall bookshelf. While it can grow vigorously when given the proper care, a potted ‘Brasil’ is wonderfully easy to trim and maintain, typically trailing to a magnificent but manageable length of 4 to 6 feet indoors. It is the perfect choice for the everyday gardener who wants the lush, colorful look of an exotic tropical vine but needs a forgiving plant that actually thrives on a bit of benign neglect.

To keep those signature neon stripes looking vivid and bright, you need to provide your plant with bright, indirect sunlight. Placing it a few feet back from an east- or west-facing window is ideal; this gentle light gives it the energy it needs to maintain its brilliant variegation without scorching the delicate foliage in the harsh afternoon sun. Because this tropical vine prefers its roots to breathe, the secret to watering is patience. You must let the top two to three inches of the potting soil dry out completely before giving it a thorough soak to protect the root system from rotting. It is crucial to know that the Philodendron ‘Brasil’ is not pet-safe; its striking leaves contain calcium oxalate crystals that will cause severe irritation and swelling in the mouths of curious cats and dogs. Simply elevate it in a hanging basket or on a high shelf safely out of reach, and this colorful vine will vigorously grow alongside you for years.
